Empathy is more powerful than our political differences

“ a high degree of empathy in a relationship is one of the most potent factors in bringing about change "

Carl Rogers

The Empathy Tent is a project of the Center for Building a Culture of Empathy. Since the 2016 presidential election we have brought our Empathy Tent to the front lines at contentious and sometimes violent left/right rallies in Berkeley and throughout California. We listen to all sides and promote facilitated and constructive dialogue via Empathy Circles. Many of our facilitated dialogues and meditations end in hugs between people on opposite sides of the political and social divides.

Our goal is to help people see each other’s common humanity, to de-escalate, and to empathize. Ideally, once a connection is established, those on opposing sides can learn to work creatively together towards positive solutions to our common problems. Many of our facilitated dialogues and meditations end in hugs between people on opposite sides of the political and social divides.
